direct to indirect speech

Our topic today is
all about transforming interrogative sentence from direct to indirect speech.

Rules
1. Comma and inverted commas will be removed.
2. The conjunction “that” will be removed.
3. In indirect speech the question sentence will be expressed in
assertive form.
4. Question mark will not be used in indirect speech.
5. The verb such as “said or told” will be replaced by the word
asked.
6. To make indirect speech of questions that can be answered by “Yes”
or “No”, the word “if” or “whether” will be used. Both can be used
interchangeably.
7. To make indirect speech of questions that requires explanation,
the word “if” or “whether will not be used. The question is changed to
assertive form.
Example:
Direct-David
said to me, “Do you like coffee?”
Indirect-
David asked me if I liked coffee.
Indirect-
David asked me whether I liked coffee.
D- He said to
me, “What are you doing?”
Indirect- He
asked me what I was doing.
